Sewa Team Supports Stem Cell Registration Drive for Layla Mistry
In June 2018, Reading Nagar Swayamsevaks and Sevikas, in collaboration with Reading Hindu Mandir and DKMS, came together to support a vital cause—the fight against blood cancer. The initiative aimed to encourage stem cell donor registrations while raising awareness for the Layla Mistry Appeal, a campaign for a three-year-old girl in urgent need of a potential stem cell transplant.
Over the course of just two hours, 14 dedicated volunteers from the Sewa Team helped register an impressive 124 new donors with DKMS, significantly increasing the chances of finding a match for Layla and others in need.
Expressing her gratitude, Layla’s mother, Nimita Mistry, shared:
“I would like to thank the Sewa Team volunteers for their support in the stem cell drive for my daughter, Layla. Their help was invaluable, and without them, organizing this event would have been much more difficult. Thanks to their efforts, we now have hope for our lovely daughter.”
This initiative highlights the power of community-driven action and selfless service (Sewa) in making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
